Over the weekend, France arrested Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram. Telegram is a messaging platform, and although the reason for the arrest is not yet fully public, the charges seem to be related to the spread of illicit material on the service (terrorism, drug trafficking... etc).

The definition of Intelligence is obviously very controversial; measuring it might even be harder and prone to many awful abuses. In the last 18 months, for many, intelligence has been seen as the ability to create and "generate" text, images, and others. However, another way that I think about it is the ability to interact and transact with others and adapt to an ecosystem. It is not restricted to humans. Animals, or even plants show some level of intelligence. With that definition, artificial intelligence would qualify as something created by humans that shows some ability to interact and transact with humans.

For centuries, "ownership" has been a legal concept, enforced by well, ... force, whether legal or arbitrary. It's also been a central theme in the Industrial Revolution and the emancipation of people worldwide. For better or worse, everything around us is "owned", from land to music or from animals (pets or cattle) to companies.

6 years ago, I wrote an article called The End of the Ad-Supported Web (please read it!). A lot of it is still right, and despite an ever-increasing presence of ads, we're getting worse and worse content and less privacy. The collapse is taking longer than I thought, but it is happening.

It is probably evident by now, but the recent AI "generators" are very good at creating content. Let's make it clear immediately: the "truth" battle is already lost. People and machines will be fooled repeatedly by fake content: we can't, and more importantly, we should not trust our senses anymore.
